the title

the hebrew word makom has meant a lot to me over the last year. it means "place" or "a certain place". and in rabbinic tradition, this hebrew word for "place" is also a name for God. the most popular use of this word in the bible is in gen. 28:16 where jacob says, "surely God was in this place (this makom) and i, i did not know."

to me, this word and this story of jacob are about being fully aware of the presence of God. it's about being fully present wherever i am, and recognizing the immediacy of God's presence everywhere.

so my hope...my aim...is that this blog will be a true representation of the place where i am, and all the humor and sadness and joy and life that i experience.
